March - April 2023. Parallel crosses
Since I already have Bastard × Freakshow, I will try a test cross of Freakshow × ABC. The mother will be a clone of Freakshow #8. For the father, I will use a robust Bastard male with unusual leaves. Instead of several rounded lobes like Drunken Bastard, he has pointed, separate leaflets. I found him in an ABC Crazy Crosses pack from Jayma Mutant Research.
This is how he explained the pack to me: “In Crazy Crosses you will find various ABCs; there are some I really like. They are all ABC phenos. Different variants gathered together - 6 years of crosses between various pure ABCs, hybrid ABCs and other carriers of ABC genetics, bred among themselves without control. That is why I call them crazy crosses. ABC Site3, Site4, Subterfuge, ABCFlo, ABC Red, various ABCs from Dr.Kaly… All crossed with each other without control.”
Drunken Bastard × Freakshow The first generation from a cross between two parents. F1 ↗ #9 is the mother for The second generation of a cross, descended from F1 plants. Traits can separate into different combinations in this generation. F2 ↗. Most of the plant’s leaves, I think up to 90%, have extra leaflets. The framework is extremely branchy, and the colas tend to stretch to one level. #9 could have been bushier, but some branches were taken for clones. The internodes are short, the flowers cover the cola densely, and the small leaves near the flowers are coated in large trichomes. All in all, this female makes me happy, and I can’t wait to see her offspring.
Last week, I pollinated a couple of colas on DF#9 with pollen saved from DF#5. To be sure of the result, the rest of the plant is waiting for fresh pollen from the DF#5 clone. I gave the same pollen to a couple of colas on a Drunken Bastard #16 clone. I think the ABC Cra.Cro male will go into the work next week.
I carried out another round of pollination:
- Drunken Bastard F3 #16 × (SWAG Ed Rosenthal Auto × ABC).
- Drunken Bastard F3 #16 × ABC Cra.Cro.
- 3 ABC Cra.Cro females × ABC Cra.Cro.

April. Parent selection and test pairs
One Bastard received pollen from a new Duckfoot male from Jayma Mutant Research’s Mix.Mix pack. The specimen showed no signs of hermaphroditism. All the other Ducks from season 3 - 40+ plants of 3 strains from Terpyz.eu - unfortunately failed the tests, turned hermaphrodite and were discarded. But there is a little hope: I have not yet tested my variegated White Widow Duck #2 male.
ABC Cra.Cro B1 is one of the mothers in the test cross and has been pollinated. Her flowers and framework are sativa-like; she is the most vigorous ABC Cra.Cro female. B4 is a clone of the pollen donor. A similar structure with a dominant central cola; a strong plant that adapts well to conditions and clones easily.
Among roughly 60 Drunken Bastard F4 specimens, I identified the largest and most vigorous plant. Four plants showed a bushy The observable traits of a plant, such as its height, leaf shape or colour. phenotype ↗: 3 females and 1 male. After 4–6 nodes, vertical growth stops and the side branches grow actively outward.
For Balkh Hash Plant × Drunken Bastard F4, I found 3 females and 1 male among 4 Balkh Hash Plant seeds from Khalifa Genetics. Among the females I chose the best plant, which showed a bright purple coating on the stem and branches. She is a squat bush with short internodes and the widest leaves among her sisters. I took clones and sent her to flower to see how she performs. The Drunken Bastard F4 male was chosen as the best of about 15 males and has the most purple stem and branches. He branches well, but vertical growth dominates.
For testing and curiosity, I pollinated Freaky Ryder F1 #2 with Bastard Ryder F1 #6.
In 2-3 weeks the Bastards and DF will free up space, and SWAG Berry Violetta V1 and AD17 Berry will go in next. For now I am waiting for them to show sex and will grow out the best ones to take clones.

May - June. Test-cross maturation
Balkh Hash Plant has an earthy, hash-like aroma; Drunken Bastard smells of blueberry with a hint of garlic. ABC Cra.Cro B1 has a sweet-and-sour citrus aroma reminiscent of lime. Drunken Bastard × Freakshow is showing mutations with varying numbers of extra leaflets, up to 13 leaflets per leaf.
Offspring of Freakshow #8 × Freakshow #4: out of about 30 plants, I selected 5 females for stress tests.
The Bastards are nearing the final stage, and the seeds will soon be ready to collect. I have already had to remove a couple of flowers: a seed matured inside, the calyx opened and began dying, and rot appeared. I am gradually harvesting flowers with mature seeds.
ABC Cra.Cro B1 was pollinated by ABC Cra.Cro B4. At the end, the plant had a sweet-and-sour fruit aroma with lime and pine notes. Its sativa-like flowers resemble Kali Mist from Serious.
Balkh Hash Plant, pollinated by Drunken Bastard F4, has dense flowers with long stigmas and a fruity aroma, with chocolate or earthy notes. The DBF4 male had a blueberry aroma with a hint of garlic and the most purple stem and branches among his brothers.
The flowers of 3 Drunken Bastard F3 #16 clones were pollinated by Duckfoot, ABC × ADED from a mutant mix, and ABC Cra.Cro B4. I also obtained Drunken Bastard × Duck, (Drunken Bastard × Lowryder) × (Freakshow × Lowryder), and ABC Cra.Cro × ABC Cra.Cro.

July. Lowryder returns
My dear lady Freakshow #8 has already been through her third round of flowering and has gone into another revegetation. Yes, samsara will not let her go any time soon.
Lowryder Regular seeds can produce both male and female plants. regular ↗ Inbred Line: a line selected over generations to reproduce particular traits consistently. IBL ↗ from Doctor’s Choice returns for the next round. I will use the genetics for these crosses:
- ABC Cra.Cro (Jayma Mutant Research) × Lowryder.
- SWAG Berry (KalySeeds) × Lowryder.
- AD17 Berry (KalySeeds) × Lowryder.
- Freakshow (7East Genetics) × Lowryder.
- Drunken Bastard F4, my selection from 7East Genetics’ DBF3, × Lowryder.

August 5–9. About 300 F2 seeds
I started about 300 seeds from 2 Drunken Bastard × Lowryder F1 mothers: BR#3 and BR#12. I will look for A plant that starts flowering independently of the length of the day. autoflowering ↗ Bastards. To pollinate the mutants I put Lowryder to work, and as a backup, and maybe for a cross with Lowryder, I added Ruderalis.
Only 9 of the 300 seeds have not opened yet, giving 97% germination. One even produced 4 cotyledons. I added about 50 more seeds from BR#3. Lowryder: 4 of 5 showed tails. Ruderalis: 2 of 8 opened; the official strain description notes the strain’s low germination.
I inspected the seedlings and eliminated all plants with ordinary leaves. Of the offspring from BR#3, 37 seedlings had ABC leaves; BR#12 gave 32. Out of roughly 300, that is about 23%, with the A trait that can be inherited without being expressed in a cross. Autoflowering is an example in the Lowryder story. recessive ↗ homozygous genotype in one quarter, as expected.

Late August - September 2. Leaf phenotypes
I see different phenotype combinations: more pointed or more rounded leaves, shorter or taller plants. Among the eliminated Drunken Bastard × Lowryder plants without ABC leaves, I found a variegated plant and brought her back into the work. It may be accidental pollination: pollen from last season’s variegated White Widow Duck #2 could have reached the mother.
Among the Bastards, 3 males and 1 female have already shown signs of autoflowering. One male is flowering especially fast, but I do not like his structure. I think the remaining plants that have this ability will start flowering within another week.
I found 3 distinct leaf phenotypes:
- Each leaf has 3–4 leaflets. The blade is smooth and tends toward a round shape; the tips seem to merge.
- Each leaf has 3–4 leaflets. The blade is straight and the tips are separate.
- Each leaf has a cluster of 4–6 leaflets. The blade is straight, while the tips seem to merge as in the first type.
I also found a couple of plants whose leaves are larger than those of the other plants. They will get special attention.

26 August - 2 September. Ruderalis and Lowryder
The Siberians are fine too, well, almost: of 8, only 5 are still alive; the rest died under mysterious circumstances. Regular Lowryders: all 5 seeds germinated, 1 seed rotted, and one produced a crooked plant. The other 3 plants are growing very well and look identical.
Ruderalis produced 4 females and 1 male. I think I will reject the male because the plant is small and thin, 1.5 times shorter than the females. Of the females, 1 is particularly tall and 3 are about the same. I will pollinate some of them with Lowryder and try Bastard on others.
I will describe the phenotypes later, but 2 females clearly stand out for greater branching than the rest.
The regular Lowryder gave two good females and one strong male. The male is a fine, short plant densely covered with pollen sacs. They are about to open, and I am getting ready to collect. The females are identical to him, strong and branchy.

September 6–14. Autoflowering Bastards
Now there will definitely be autoflowering Bastards. I have started more than 350 seeds so far. Among them, I found 10 flowering females and 5 males. Next, I will choose the best females and pollinate them with an autoflowering male. Freakshow × Lowryder F2 will follow, to find an autoflowering Freakshow.
The male is entering the active phase and will soon open his pollen sacs. The females are flowering well too, and I will do a round of pollination in the next few days. After the recommendation to maintain a second line, when I had already discarded all the extra males, another autoflowering male suddenly appeared, with the phenotype I wanted. I found another 2 similar autoflowering females to pair with him.

16 September. Freakshow × Lowryder F2
After the first week, out of more than 350 seeds I managed to pick out 35-40 plants with Freakshow leaves (a range, because it is not yet clear whether it is a full Freakshow leaf or a normal but distorted one). I hope luck will be on my side and among them I will find at least one autoflowering plant of each sex.

September. Two lines and new crosses
Lowryder IBL is one more hero father, ready to go; at the weekend I will collect his pollen and discard the plant. Over the last 1.5 weeks I carried out every possible round of pollination with Lowryder and Drunken Bastard × Lowryder, today I “finished off” a couple more and discarded the males.
DB × LR F2#3 and DB × LR F2#12 are 2 lines descended from different F1 mothers. I expect these results from the current round:
- (DB × LR F2#3), several different mothers, × (DB × LR F2#3).
- (DB × LR F2#12), several different mothers, × (DB × LR F2#12).
- (DB × LR F2#3) × Lowryder.
- (DB × LR F2#3) × Drunken Bastard F3 #15.
- Lowryder × (DB × LR F2#3).
- AD17 Berry × Lowryder.
- AD17 Berry × (DB × LR F2#12).
- AD17 Berry × (DB × LR F2#3).
- SWAG Berry × Lowryder.
- Balkh Hash Plant × (DB × LR F2#3).
- (GPP × ADED) × (DB × LR F2#12).
- Drunken Bastard F4 × (DB × LR F2#3).
- ABC Cra.Cro × (DB × LR F2#3).
- Siberian Ruderalis × Lowryder.
- Siberian Ruderalis × (DB × LR F2#3).
Pregnant females pollinated by one father, F2#31M: Drunken Bastard × Lowryder F2#3-11, Lowryder IBL autoreg and Siberian Ruderalis autoreg #1.
The season’s best autoflowering mothers are Drunken Bastard × Lowryder F2, Lowryder IBL from Doctor’s Choice, and Siberian Ruderalis from Khalifa Genetics, all pollinated by the DB × LR F2#3M male. I can’t wait for the seeds to mature.

26 September. Supafreak and Freakshow × Lowryder F2
Today some interesting genetics arrived in my hands, and one of the packs went straight into the work. Meet Supafreak from the original breeder Shapeshifter, seed bank Hi-Elevation Genetics. It is important to understand that HumboldtSC did not create Freakshow; they simply held the rights for a while and multiplied the strain. I hope to have some crosses to show by spring.
Freakshow × Lowryder is doing fine; we are waiting for the plants to grow to look for autoflowers. One plant has ordinary leaves, but 3 growth points appear on every node, so I am keeping it to see how it develops.

September - November. Drunken Bastard × Freakshow F2
I started roughly 100 seeds of my Drunken Bastard × Freakshow and found about 20 plants. Bastard leaves predominate, but there are a couple of interesting specimens.
The first is my gem: a mixed leaf, with the leaflet separation tending toward Freakshow but the margins and leaflet shape partly Bastard. The second is similar but leans more toward Bastard. The third is the only specimen with Freakshow morphology.
I hope my 2 favorite specimens with mixed leaf types turn out to be opposite sexes and advance to F3 for even more leaf diversity. I will call one phenotype “Rosemary.”

Autumn. Repeat tests and variegation
DB × Duck, DB × (SWAG Ed Rosenthal Auto × ABC), and DB × ABC Cra.Cro passed the germination test. I use a handful of random seeds for testing, some of usable quality and some previously rejected.
In the first test, Drunken Bastard × ABC Cra.Cro showed roughly 10% ordinary leaves, suggesting Duckfoot pollen had entered the cross. Drunken Bastard × Duckfoot had only ordinary leaves; Duckfoot, ABC, and mixed forms will appear only in F2.
Drunken Bastard × (SWAG Ed Rosenthal Auto × ABC) showed some ABC leaves, as expected, since the father carries the recessive trait. The father with SWAG Ed Rosenthal Auto × ABC genetics came from a mix of mutant seeds; the breeder who gave me the mix said the plant should carry these genes. In theory, if he did not get the pedigree wrong, about 50% ABC should come out.
In the repeat test, 24 Drunken Bastard × ABC Cra.Cro F1 seeds produced 2 plants with ordinary leaves. The accidental pollination is not so bad after all. One tiny plant was variegated. In Drunken Bastard × (Ed Rosenthal Auto × ABC F1) F1, around 30–40% showed Bastard leaves.
The variegated plant from Drunken Bastard × Lowryder F2 turned out female. And since I have a pack of Giant Pur Pur Neon from KalySeeds in reserve, I will do everything I can to preserve her for a future cross.

1 October. Test Freakshow
A Freakshow from another friend, grown from seeds of my test cross. My own tests of these seeds did not satisfy me, so I did not produce more seeds from those parents. A quarter of the plants were completely non-branching and weak, and some others had airy flowers.
This specimen shows that a good phenotype was chosen. The framework is well built, the stem grows thick, and the flowers are fine too, but not the maximum I am aiming for. I would like fatter flowers with a denser structure.
October - November. Autoflowering Freakshow F2
Six plants showed both autoflowering and Freakshow leaves. Lowryder is now wearing 2 different leaf types!
A bonus: a variegated, even more mutant plant. It is not yet known whether she carries the autoflowering trait, but I will definitely keep her for the work.
In parallel, I am working with 11 SupaFreak F7 plants from Hi-Elevation Genetics and 32 Freakshow F10 plants from the previous cross of 7East Genetics’ F9 Freakshow. I will later cross these and try to produce Fast SupaFreak and Fast Freakshow, then select at least one more autoflowering version.
In the end, stress kept the Freakshow × Lowryder F2 plants tiny. But I chose the 2 best females and pollinated them with 2 different males. There will not be many seeds for the next round, but I will work with what I have.

October 19. SWAG Berry Violetta × Lowryder
SWAG Berry Violetta has been pollinated by Lowryder. The mother carries flowers with a purple stem and the same tint on the flowers at room temperature. I think if she were cooled, she would show solid purple across the whole plant. She gives off a blueberry bubblegum aroma. During the grow I noticed slight variegation on a couple of leaves, and today during an inspection I found a pink-and-white albino calyx and a bright mottled leaf on the same flower. From Lowryder the offspring will take on autoflowering.
So it will be a bingo of recessive traits: autoflowering, variegation, purple and pink flowers, and a blueberry bubblegum aroma. That means in F2 it will be possible to dig out plenty of combinations in the search for great phenotypes.
October 29. Drunken Bastard × Lowryder F2 3#11×3
A strong plant of medium height, with the largest flowers among her sisters. The calyxes are loosely spaced and elongated, resembling foxtails; the mother, DB#16, had a similar structure. She was pollinated by DB × LR F2#3 for line #3.
Seed to harvest: 87 days. Pollination to seeds: 38 days. Height: 45 cm. The aroma is fresh, fruity, floral, and slightly citrusy: green apple, mint, lime, and lemon. Vertical growth dominates, with good branching; the side colas can also gain volume. The ABC leaves are jagged, with sharp-edged lobes.

October 29. Drunken Bastard × Lowryder F2 12#11×12
A strong plant of medium height, with the densest flowers among her sisters. The flower is substantial, dense, and well covered in trichomes, with a slight purple tint at the end of flowering. She was pollinated by DB × LR F2#12 for line #12.
Seed to harvest: 87 days. Pollination to seeds: 38 days. Height: 44 cm. The aroma is sweet, berry-like, and earthy: blueberry, earth, and musk. Vertical growth dominates, branching is sparse, and a large central cola develops with flowers alongside it. The ABC leaves are jagged, with sharp-edged lobes.

October 29. Drunken Bastard × Lowryder F2 3#31×3
A strong plant of medium height, with the most trichome-rich flowers among her sisters. The flower is substantial, dense, and thickly covered in trichomes. Something went wrong at the main cola and several other flowers: instead of gaining mass, the tip remained something like a succulent. She was pollinated by DB × LR F2#3 for line #3.
Seed to harvest: 87 days. Pollination to seeds: 38 days. Height: 42 cm. The aroma is sweet, fruity, and floral: exotic fruit, musk, and flowers. Vertical growth dominates, with moderate branching. The ABC leaves are jagged, with sharp-edged lobes that extend sideways rather than overlap.

5 November. Parents for fast versions
Several strains are in the programme:
- Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 - Mutant Farm.
- ABC Crazy Crosses B1 - Jayma Mutant Research.
- Drunken Bastard F3 #16 - 7East Genetics.
- AD17 Berry - KalySeeds.
- SWAG Berry Violetta - KalySeeds.
- Chronic Ryder F1 Fast Version reg. - Doctor’s Choice.
October - November. The first F3 plants and fast versions
In the first week of October, I collected the first seeds from Drunken Bastard × Lowryder F2 3#11×3. I hoped for at least 50% germination. That is roughly what happened: 2 seedlings out of 15, and 3 days later another 5 roots appeared. By November, I had 8 Drunken Bastard × Lowryder F3 seedlings.
Three plants are developing normally; I hope one turns out to be a good male. I will treat the next 4, which emerged later, as a second group and reserves in case none of the first 3 is male. One of them failed to root, could not shed its seed coat and began to wither, so I discarded it. That leaves 3 in the second group as well. As with CBD Dragon last year, the result is the same: seeds that had not rested long enough gave low germination and weak development.
I sorted the last seeds from this round. These include the first trial fast versions of the Bastards: Drunken Bastard F4 × (DB × Lowryder F2) and ABC Cra.Cro × (DB × Lowryder F2), both regular.
After the switch to flowering, all the plants are stretching and starting to flower. Chronic is flowering, the Bastards are just beginning, and SWAG and AD are the slowest: no start of flowering has been noticed on them yet.

December 7. Freakshow × Lowryder F2 #11
The autoflowering Freakshow seeds have matured, so it is time to describe the plants. #11 is strong and resilient, having endured a difficult battle with pests. Those problems kept her small. Her structure resembles mother FS#8: short and slender, with that distinctive leaf shape and narrow, elongated leaflets. She was pollinated by FR#12 for line #12.
Seed to harvest: 88 days. Pollination to seeds: 40 days. Height: 15 cm. The aroma matches the F1 mother: sweet, slightly sour, floral, and citrusy, with pepper notes. Vertical growth dominates, branching is sparse, and a large central cola forms with flowers alongside it. This may reflect weak development caused by early-cycle problems. The FS leaves have neat, narrow leaflets.

December 7. Freakshow × Lowryder F2 #21
Something rather odd and hard to understand, but very interesting. The flowers are airy; they look like clusters of aromatic sugar leaves rather than flowers; in the wild I might not even take them for buds. She was pollinated by FR#22 for line #22.
Seed to harvest: 88 days. Pollination to seeds: 40 days. Height: 15 cm. The aroma matches the F1 mother: sweet, slightly sour, floral, and citrusy, with pepper notes. It is stronger than her sister’s and seems to have hash-like notes. Vertical growth dominates, with sparse branching. The FS leaves have neat, narrow leaflets.

7-13 December. A backcross and a non-autoflowering sister
The clone of the FS#8 mother has been pollinated with a mix of pollen from two grandsons, #12 and #22, for a A backcross: crossing a descendant with one of its parents to preserve or reinforce that parent's traits. backcross ↗.
I forgot to mention another of my FS x LR F2 plants. She is a strong, resilient female with the most vigorous growth and resilience among all the other plants that did not show autoflowering. She wants to flower so badly that she is covered in pistils, but she does not fully flower until she is switched to flowering. She is being kept for the next cycle.
7 December. Three male autoflowering bastards
At this point I have kept 3 autoflowering bastards. All three have shown their sex, and luckily for me, they are male. That means the bastards will be used to produce fast versions.

December - January. The next selection and ABC Crazy Fast
I have not eliminated the thrips yet, but I have slowed their spread. One Drunken Bastard × Lowryder F3 is preparing to shed pollen.
SWAG showed signs of hermaphroditism. I did not keep AD17 because her flower structure was poor, with tiny flowers. I kept neither clones nor the plant itself. I will continue with her sister, whom I ran successfully in the previous cycle and who met all my criteria.
I chose the male that will be the main pollen donor for the females. I collected a little pollen from one male and pollinated the bastards a little; now the second male will cover the main part. I chose him for his proper framework: vertical growth dominates, with even branching like conventional strains. I noticed an unusual fractal structure on ABC Cra.Cro’s lower fan leaves. A Bastard leaf is a cluster of leaflets. On this plant, the leaflets are neatly separated, and each has its own cluster.
Chronic will soon be ready for harvest; I probably will not manage to pollinate it fully. By the end of December, the Drunken Bastard × Lowryder F3 male did a great job and dusted the whole space with pollen; no one around will be left without offspring. Chronic has been cut, since it did not get pollinated in time.
In January, a Drunken Bastard × Lowryder F3 male is pollinating Drunken Bastard F3 and ABC Cra.Cro. Height: 75 cm; the stem has a sweet, slightly spicy aroma. The mothers are ABC Crazy Crosses, with purple on one of the clones, and Drunken Bastard F3. These are the parents of the next fast-flowering ABC version.

January 24, 2024. Chronic Fast F1 #1
A strong, stress-resistant plant. The only one of the Chronic bunch that survived the “meat grinder” while still a seedling. A real fast version: she very quickly put on pistils and started gaining mass; I did not manage to pollinate her properly and harvested her 1.5-2 weeks early.
From the switch to flowering to harvest: 40 days; she should have stayed until 50-55. Height: about 50 cm. Sex: female, with no signs of hermaphroditism. The aroma is sweet, floral and fruity, slightly citrus with apricot or peach. Framework: a classic structure with a massive main cola. Leaves of normal size, with medium leaflets, neither narrow nor wide.
