17 January 2024. The cycle starts
We are setting off on a new cycle. Yesterday I started the Duck hybrids to be pollinated by the A plant that starts flowering independently of the length of the day. autoflowering ↗ bastards. I also started the third-generation bastards themselves to move into an autofem version.
24 January. A new auto run
I decided not to waste time and added a pack of Siberian x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder The second generation of a cross, descended from F1 plants. Traits can separate into different combinations in this generation. F2 ↗) to the cycle to move into the second generation.
The seedlings are coming up. My Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 and Purple Kush x Purple Frisian Duck auto from Zen emerged first.

3 February. The cycle lineup
I came up with a little plan and went round my friends asking for support, for any spare seeds they could offer. They collected good fresh seeds for me, as well as old and even broken ones. I added all sorts of stock that had built up from bonuses, gifts and giveaways.
An auto run, as you might have guessed, because all the strains will be autoflowering. This also includes the ones I started last week. I am not sure they will all reach the finish alive or intact, because keeping a large number of plants of different strains is not easy, but I will try to do everything I can.
Here is the lineup (the number in brackets is the strain number):
- Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 V3 from Mutant Farm.
- Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 V12 from Mutant Farm.
- Lowryder x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) from Mutant Farm.
- Siberian Ruderalis x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) from Mutant Farm.
- Purple Kush x Purple Frisian Duck from Zen Seeds Bank.
- Frisian Duck x Purple Frisian Duck from Zen Seeds Bank.
- Frisian Duck from Zen Seeds Bank.
- Auto Duck from Dutch Passion.
- Strawberry Gelato from Zen Seeds Bank.
- Rosella CBD from Zen Seeds Bank.
- The Red Thai from Zen Seeds Bank.
- Xtreme from Dutch Passion.
- Strawberry Gorilla Auto from FastBuds (1).
- Daiquiri Lime from Dutch Passion (2).
- Glueberry O.G. from Dutch Passion (3).
- Critical Orange Punch from Dutch Passion (4).
- Gelato 41 x Gelato 41 from Green House Seeds Co. (5).
- Niagara from Doctor’s Choice (7).
- Deep Forest superauto from Doctor’s Choice (8).
- Doctor’s Choice #1 from Doctor’s Choice (9).
- Devotchka from Doctor’s Choice (10).
- Rock Machine from Doctor’s Choice (11).
- Zkittlez OG from Barney’s Farm (12).
- Gorilla Glue from Barney’s Farm (14).
- Gorilla Cookies from FastBuds (15).
- Amnesia Haze from Barney’s Farm (16).
- Lowryder from Doctor’s Choice (17).
- Auto Lemon Kix from Dutch Passion (18).
I also started two of my In photoperiod plants, the change to flowering depends on the length of the day. photoperiod ↗ crosses for testing:
- Drunken Bastard F4 x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) The first generation from a cross between two parents. F1 ↗.
- ABC Cra.Cro x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) F1.

14 February. Seedlings
Some seeds have still not emerged, but the main pool is in the game.
15 February. ABC Cra.Cro B1 harvest
A strong, resilient plant with a well-formed structure dominated by vertical growth. Adapts well to different conditions and roots quickly from cuttings. Resistant to mould because of its “fluffy” flower structure. Heavily covered in trichomes and shows purple in cool conditions. Does not need heavy trimming; there is very little sugar leaf around the buds. This is my third cycle working with this female.
The exact genetics are unknown. I found her in a pack of ABC Crazy Crosses that Jayma_mutant_research gave me as a gift. He explained the set to me like this:
“In Crazy Crosses you will find various ABCs, including some I really like. All the phenos here are ABC. Different variants gathered together: 6 years of crosses between various pure ABCs, hybrid ABCs and other carriers of ABC genetics, bred among themselves without control. That is why I call them crazy crosses. ABC Site3, Site4, Subterfuge, ABCFlo, ABC Red, various ABCs from Dr.Kaly… All crossed with each other uncontrollably.”
- From the transition to flowering to harvest - 88 days.
- Height - ~83 cm.
- Sex - female, with no signs of hermaphroditism.
- Aroma - sweet-and-sour fruit, with notes of apple, lime and pine.
- Bud - the calyxes extend slightly to the sides, which lets air circulate well.
- Framework - a structure typical of classic strains, with a dominant main cola.
- Leaves - the lobes overlap, with pointed tips. On large fan leaves, a fractal forms instead of a cluster, with each finger forming a cluster of its own.

22 February - 2 March. Leaves and sex
In some bastards, starting with the previous generation, I noticed larger leaf blades than in the original ABC and DB. Growth rates have increased too, since vegetative growth is usually slower at first. The bastards are very different sizes, because I started them in two waves about 1.5 weeks apart.
In the auto run, most plants have shown their sex; the males have even developed anthers. All the males have been moved to a separate area.
All the photoperiod plants I still had as clones have moved into flowering for pollination by autoflowering bastards in this round. They include representatives of Balkh Hash Plant, Chronic Fast F1, Drunken Bastard x Freakshow F2, ABC Cra.Cro and variegated Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2.
I have to finish all my current projects by July. To stay on schedule, I started Freakshow x Lowryder F3, Supafreak and Siberian Ruderalis.
8 March. The retained Freakshow #8
Today I want to remind some of you, and tell others for the first time, about my favourite Freakshow #8. This female is flowering for the sixth time; she is already 1 year, 11 months and 15 days old.

13 March. Line L3 and the ABC trial
Yesterday I pollinated DB x LR F3 within the line and pollinated ABC Cra.Cro too. The Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 male and female were selected from line #3 to move into F4. Both have a large-leaf The observable traits of a plant, such as its height, leaf shape or colour. phenotype ↗ and the most vigorous, powerful growth among their siblings. In Drunken Bastard, before the addition of Lowryder, the leaves were about 2-2.5 times smaller.
The trial ABC Cra.Cro x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) plants also have larger leaf blades. Germination was ~90-95%; I cannot determine it exactly. The plants look uniform, with slight structural differences. As soon as they show their sex, I will let them grow out to see the phenotypes better.
13-19 March. Freaks and line L12
My Freakshow x Lowryder F3 and Supafreak from Hi-Elevation have emerged successfully and reached the seedling stage.
Only the best male and female autoflowering freaks will remain for open pollination. I will use the male pollen for the fast version of the Freak, the cross Supafreak x (Freakshow x Lowryder).
Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 has stayed in isolation after pollination.
I sorted the seeds of (Freakshow x Lowryder F2) x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3). I do not think I can start testing them before autumn.
Pollen from the male Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 #12 went to its sister to move line #12 into F4, several classic autoflowering strains and the photoperiod Drunken Bastard x Freakshow F2, Bastard phenotype.
25 March. Backcrosses and polyhybrids
I selected the best Drunken Bastard x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) and ABC Cra.Cro x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) plants and moved them into flowering. From DB I will keep only the females and pollinate them with ABC for a polyhybrid F2 in which I will look for autoflowers. I will also pollinate the ABC plants within their line to move into F2 and look for autoflowers.
The small one is a A backcross: crossing a descendant with one of its parents to preserve or reinforce that parent's traits. backcross ↗ of Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2 back to Lowryder, or in other words Lowryder x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2). It has now been pollinated by Siberian Ruderalis x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) to create a first-generation polyhybrid.
I also have the reverse combination, Siberian x (DB x LR F2), which I pollinated with Lowryder x (DB x LR F2). Later I will start seeds of these hybrids, 25% of which will be autoflowering bastards, and cross them with each other to get a polyhybrid version of 100% autoflowering bastards that combines the dominant traits of all these crosses. It will take at least another six months, though.
The result will look something like this: ((Lowryder x DB x LR) x (Siberian x DB x LR)) x ((Siberian x DB x LR) x (Lowryder x DB x LR)) F1. I picked up this breeding technique from one of my favourite breeders, 7eastgenetics.
The large Siberian x (DB x LR F2) female has been pollinated by a partner from its own family to move into F2 and look for an XXL autoflowering bastard.
6 April. Three maternal phenotypes
Siberian x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2), the best female plant, a true XXL. A large, massive cola with densely arranged flowers and a good coating of sugar. Pollinated by Lowryder x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2).
Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3, the best female plant from line #12, is carrying F4 seeds. A bushy, squat phenotype, but still with a dominant central cola, vigorous and resistant to stress.
Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3, the best female plant from line #3. Carrying F4 seeds. A phenotype with a classic structure and dominant central cola, a large plant with a larger leaf blade, also resistant to stress.

6-27 April. Additional crosses
Drunken Bastard F4 x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) F1: plants selected to move into F2.
Niagara from Doctor’s Choice is one of the plants pollinated by Auto Bastard in the auto run.

14-20 April. Repeating L3
Thrips have spread across all the plants. Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 L3 went to harvest, as it was approaching maturity. The seeds of Siberian Ruderalis x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) matured, because I pollinated it at the very first signs of flowering to shorten the cycle. It went to harvest too.
I suddenly decided the auto run could be stretched for another couple of months and started the next batch of seeds. Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 are back in the game. For some reason L3 was not pollinated successfully to continue its line into F4, and I want to try to find that phenotype again.
I also decided to try crossing both lines of my autoflowering bastard with LSD-25 from FastBuds, aiming to obtain an autoflowering bastard with purple buds in the future.
I also started seeds of Unknown auto reg x (SWAG Ed Rosenthal auto x ABC) for testing. The mothers were 2 unknown autoflowers with classic leaf shapes, from a mix of mutant-strain seeds by breeder Jayma_mutant_research. The father came from the same mix but had distorted leaves, with a shape between classic and SWAG.
21-23 April. Selection and cotyledons
ABC Cra.Cro x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) and the backcross Drunken Bastard x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) have been pollinated to produce the next generation. There are 7 ABC females heading towards the finish; the three with the largest flowers and the right structure will definitely stay. The others will stay only if they surprise me with something else. One DB remains: the largest, most vigorous female, with a purple tint to the stems.
All the Siberians and Lowryders went to seed harvest. Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 and several autoflowers pollinated by it remain to mature. Freakshow x Lowryder F3 have started flowering; I rejected all the weak plants and selected the two best males. From Supafreak I selected 4 plants I liked.
I am testing ABC Cra.Cro x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3), obtained in the last report. Of the first six seedlings, three have three cotyledons each. Once my first tests are finished, the seeds will go to testers.
27 April. Germination and the seed coat
Testing seeds obtained from the mother in my report.
I carried out the first test on 21 March, after a month of rest, and got low germination, close to 50% over ten days. I decided to postpone sending seeds to testers for another month and let them rest properly, because in my experience germination usually returns to normal within 1.5-2.5 months.
- 16 April: I started a new batch of 60 seeds.
- 19 April: ~50% sprouted actively in the first 3.5 days.
- 21 April: over 6 days, at most ~10% sprouted; the rest show no movement. I started another batch of about 80 seeds. I carefully helped the first-batch seeds that had not germinated by weakening the seed coat.
- 23 April: after this treatment, all the first-batch seeds emerged within 2.5 days. The second batch began emerging actively.
- 24 April: I also weakened the seed coat of the second-batch seeds that had not germinated within 3.5 days. By the evening of the same day they began to wake up.
- 27 April: I stopped the experiment with the last 7 seeds.
I had 140 seeds in total, and ~40-50% had not germinated without treatment after 3 days. ~5% had not germinated over the full 11 days after I helped the seeds by weakening the seed coat. This seed-coat problem often occurs in Bastards.

4 May. Fast Bastard and Auto Freak
The first version of Fast Bastard is progressing successfully towards offspring; seeds have formed and will soon begin maturing. The autoflowering Bastards should mature within 1-1.5 weeks. The second wave of autoflowering Bastards has emerged. The 4 autos remaining from the original list matured yesterday and were cut.
The Auto Freaks received pollen from a male plant.
ABC Cra.Cro x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2): two phenotypes in the first version of Fast Bastard.
- The first is short, with densely arranged buds and a structure very close to Lowryder.
- The second is tall and stretches in flowering, with slightly above-average internode spacing. Its structure is close to the ABC mother and the original Drunken Bastard.

4 May. ABC Crazy Fast
- Genetics: ABC Cra.Cro x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3).
- Mother: ABC Crazy Crosses - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
- Father: Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 - 1, 2.
- Type: Regular seeds can produce both male and female plants. regular ↗, photoperiod.
- Flowering time: 9-10 weeks.
- Aroma: sour-sweet, with notes of citrus, apple and pine.
- Height: medium/tall.
I created my own autoflowering bastard strain using Drunken Bastard and Lowryder genetics. Among the third-generation plants I found the best male and used it to pollinate my keeper ABC Crazy Crosses B1 to create a heterotic fast-flowering version.
ABC CC B1 is a vigorous, fast-growing, large Bastard whose exact genetics are unknown. It carries code from random crosses of various ABC strains, both pure landraces and hybrid versions with Cookies and Gorilla. I received these seeds from Jayma, an old-school mutant breeder, and selected the best female, which passed all the stress tests.
ABC Crazy Fast seeds have a thick coat that prevents water from being absorbed. If some seeds have not germinated after a week, I recommend “cracking” them to make germination easier.
4-6 May. Testers
During the week I prepared seeds for testers and started sending them out - 20 seeds of the latest version of my fast bastard.
ABC Cra.Cro x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) grown by Plag Ronoff. The grower decided to try his luck and used a single seed. Sex showed in the fourth to fifth week, and the plant turned out to be male. I see a strong framework and short internode spacing; it stretches powerfully after the switch to flowering. The grower has now started a new cycle with 4 seeds of Drunken Bastard x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2).
Another hybrid using Drunken Bastard from my test crosses, grown by Bender, a grower and breeder. The plants are being grown for seeds. “I have never seen such snow-white plumpness, or fluffiness, before,” the grower says.
10 May - 10 June. F4 and purple
Freakshow x Lowryder F3. Looking good: as in previous generations, the plants are covered in a layer of sugar. All the females have been pollinated; we are waiting for F4 offspring. Supafreak will soon move into flowering. I have not decided whether to pollinate them with an autoflower straight away for a Fast version and an improved auto version, or reproduce them first and select a parent plant in the next generation.
So far, however, the project has successfully reached these goals:
- Autoflowering.
- Freakshow leaves.
- Heavy trichome coverage.
The Bastards are pleasing me too: a couple of my favourite plants from line L12 have shown a purple tint to their buds. That means an autoflowering purple bastard may be closer than it seems.
18 May: the Freaks have been pollinated successfully and are forming seeds. The Fast Bastards carrying F2 are moving towards maturity.
2 June: May turned out to be a bit difficult. I had to wind down work on everything I had started in the cycle over the last month and take a break. Freakshow x Lowryder carrying F4 offspring and ABC Cra.Cro x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder) carrying F2 offspring are still finishing flowering. Next to them are vegetating Supafreak plants; I am still deciding whether to send them into flowering or carry them over to the next season, which will start in autumn.
10 June: I harvested ABC Cra.Cro x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2). I left one Drunken Bastard x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) plant to finish flowering; I think it needs another 1-1.5 weeks.

29 June - 13 July. Crosses with friends
Drunken Bastard F3 x ABC Cra.Cro from my seeds, grown by a good friend and fellow experimenter.
13 July: my dear friend and fellow researcher is playing with mutants: (Drunken Bastard F3 x ABC Cra.Cro) F2 and Gringo Var Lemon x (Drunken Bastard F3 x ABC Cra.Cro) F1. The Gringo hybrid has a pronounced lemon aroma.
1 September. Results of the first round
I am already starting a new cycle, but I never described the results of the previous round. Unfortunately, in May I had to interrupt the work, shrink the farm to a compact setup and remove all plants with classic leaves.
I had to kill most of the autoflowers, because they could not mature within a timeframe that suited me. Many plants from Zen Seeds Bank were labelled as autos but did not flower and were discarded.
Here is the list of my hybrids and their results:
- Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 V3 - the best mother proved infertile, and I am repeating the cycle to move into F4.
- Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F3 V12 - the best mother was selected; I moved into F4.
- Lowryder x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) - I moved into F2 and obtained a cross with Siberian Ruderalis x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2).
- Siberian Ruderalis x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) - I moved into F2 and obtained a cross with Lowryder x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2).
- ABC Crazy Fast - I moved into F2 to create ABC Crazy Auto.
- Drunken Bastard F4 x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F2) F1 - the best mother died before maturing.
And the list from the search for new mothers:
- Purple Kush x Purple Frisian Duck, Frisian Duck x Purple Frisian Duck and Frisian Duck from Zen Seeds Bank - proved photoperiodic.
- Strawberry Gelato, Rosella CBD and The Red Thai from Zen Seeds Bank - proved photoperiodic or simply did not flower.
- Niagara (7), Doctor’s Choice #1 (9), Devotchka (10), Rock Machine (11) and Lowryder (17) from Doctor’s Choice - pollinated by Auto Bastard F3 L12.
- Auto Duck from Dutch Passion; Xtreme from Dutch Passion; Strawberry Gorilla Auto from FastBuds (1); Daiquiri Lime from Dutch Passion (2); Glueberry O.G. from Dutch Passion (3); Critical Orange Punch from Dutch Passion (4); Gelato 41 x Gelato 41 from Green House Seeds Co. (5); Deep Forest superauto from Doctor’s Choice (8); Zkittlez OG from Barney’s Farm (12); Gorilla Glue from Barney’s Farm (14); Gorilla Cookies from FastBuds (15); Amnesia Haze from Barney’s Farm (16); Auto Lemon Kix from Dutch Passion (18) - did not fit the schedule.
1 September. 500+ seeds
I am back in action. Yesterday I started a new cycle, beginning germination of 500+ seeds from 15+ hybrids.
1 September. The second round and its numbers
I will not split my auto run into separate reports; I will continue it as one report. This part is laid out as follows: I am using a bunch of plants for seeds. The first wave will cover selection and hybridisation of several versions of the autoflowering bastard and a trial Feminized seeds are produced to give female plants. feminised ↗ autoflowering Drunken Bastard x Lowryder. A month later, autoflowering Freakshow seeds will enter the programme for hybridisation and a fast version. By November, the photoperiod mutants GPP and Opalo, and the fast AD17 and SWAG hybrids that I pollinated with autoflowers in the previous round to introduce the trait, will move into flowering. If the work goes smoothly, I will need one more round to release feminised versions of every line I am working on.
For flowers:
- Lowryder autofem - Doctor’s Choice.
- Purple Ryder autofem - Doctor’s Choice.
- Rock Machine autofem - Doctor’s Choice.

10-23 September. Leaf selection
I carried out the first selection. Among the F2 hybrids where I am looking for Bastard leaves, I removed all seedlings with ordinary leaves. I started another batch of #9 (Auto Bastard bx F3) and #10 (Siberian Bastard F2). I also started another photoperiod plant, Gringo, a variegated strain, and 4 hybrids between Auto Bastard and classic strains obtained in the first half of the auto run:
- AR#7. Niagara x Auto Bastard F1.
- AR#9. Doctor’s Choice #1 x Auto Bastard F1.
- AR#10. Devotchka x Auto Bastard F1.
- AR#11. Rock Machine x Auto Bastard F1.
I selected bastards from the second batch of #9 and #10. The regular and feminised autoflowers from Doctor’s Choice have shown their sex. Bastards usually “mature” later, but I am expecting their signs soon too.
I selected variegated Giant Pur Pur Neon and Tropica Race Purple plants. From Freakshow I selected the fastest, most vigorous ones. The SWAG and AD17 hybrids are showing mutations in F1 with the Lowryder and Auto Bastard autoflowers; I have kept all of them for now.

24 September. A grower’s review
The grower’s final review of Drunken Bastard x ABC Cra.Cro: “The aroma is roughly the same in all of them - pine and Soviet shoe polish, something in between. A couple of mothers had a mango aroma.”
29 September. Hermaphrodites
Plants showing male sex traits now go to a separate area. During inspection I found hermaphrodites: two bastards, one male and one female, and one male Lowryder. All were discarded.
Among the Doctor’s Choice autoflowers, one Rock Machine and one Purple Ryder have started flowering. Among the photoperiod plants I selected the best ones.

14 October. Early Ultimate and Siberian
Last week I carried out the first pollinations. I collect pollen in zip bags, remove the used males and wet-clean the area. I pollinate with a brush.
Among #14 Ultimate Bastard (Siberian x Auto Bastard) x (Lowryder x Auto Bastard), I found a male with a well-formed classic structure that was one of the first to flower and showed a light purple tint on its flowers and stem. I used it to pollinate LSD-25, the plant that flowered first in its population and showed vivid purple tones.
From #10 Siberian Bastard (Siberian x Auto Bastard) I identified a phenotype with early flowering and tall growth, and selected a male and female to stabilise it.
Over the week I gradually culled plants that do not suit me. Across all the hybrids, I remove plants with weak branching, excessive stretching, short stature and so on.
All the best males are gathered separately. The change of conditions, by the way, stresses them so that hermaphrodite traits show up if the plants are not stress-resistant. The males get a daily shower from a spray bottle, and their area is wet-cleaned to kill pollen and reduce the chance of contamination.
Among #14 Ultimate Bastard I found another phenotype: again, plants that flowered quickly, with weak branching and a dominant main cola, but with densely arranged, lush flowers. I will pollinate soon. One phenotype remains in #14, present in most plants: powerful plants with a classic structure, a thick main stem and good branching, flowering later.

20 October - 1 November. Accidental pollen
I am continuing the pollination rounds, one every 2-3 days. At the moment 3 more auto hybrids remain to be pollinated. I will describe the selected phenotypes at the end of the cycle, when the plants mature. Within 1-2 weeks I will start the second part of the plants for crosses with the Auto Freak, which is now in F4.
Unfortunately, I ran into accidental pollination. Among several AD17 Berry x Auto Bastard F1 plants there was a small autoflowering male that I missed during a quick inspection. Before I found it, it had opened several anthers and contaminated the buds. The pollen did not reach the other areas.
Among the Doctor’s Choice autoflowers I selected the early-maturing phenotypes of each strain and left them to mature, and cut the ones that flower longer. I kept 1 plant each of Lowryder and Rock Machine, and 2 Purple Ryder plants. Photoperiod Freakshow plants took their place: they will stay in veg for a couple of weeks and then go into making the fast version of the Freak. Among the autoflowering Bastards, 3 male plants remain to be used: Siberian Bastard F2, Ultimate Bastard V1 and V2.
1 November: the bastards are flowering, including Drunken Bastard x Lowryder F4.
5 November. The second part with Freakshow
I am starting the second part of the cycle with Freakshow hybridisation. Among several purple autoflowers, I plan to find the most strongly expressed purple phenotypes and pollinate them with my autoflowering Freakshow. I will also use Siberian Ruderalis and Lowryder to pollinate the KalySeeds strains I selected over these 2 months.
The following strains:
- Auto Freakshow (Freakshow x Lowryder) F4, best mother.
- Auto Freakshow (Freakshow x Lowryder) F4, mixed mothers.
- Auto Freakshow (Freakshow x Lowryder) F3.
- Lowryder - Doctor’s Choice.
- Siberian Ruderalis - Khalifa Genetics.
- Purple Ryder - Doctor’s Choice.
- Auto Purple - Pyramid Seeds.
- LSD-25 - FastBuds.
- Auto Duck - Dutch Passion.
At day 63-65 from sprouting I cut Purple Ryder and Rock Machine. The Purple was 100% ready; the Machine could have used more time, but it was time to free up space.
17 November - 1 December. A new wave and seeds
Neo Tropica Race (Giant Pur Pur Neon x Tropica Race) will move into flowering with the other photoperiod plants. LSD-25 from FastBuds has been pollinated by Siberian Bastard F2, purple phenotype.
SWAG Berry x Auto Bastard F1. Some of the plants showed a phenotype that another breeder, Lunar Gardens Gojira, had come across earlier while working with similar genetics in his own cross. He thinks this phenotype looks like the “Mutant” pepper. Last season I grew such a hybrid, a variegated phenotype, and I agree with him.
The seeds gave an almost perfect germination result. Only one Purple Ryder seed failed to germinate.
I started cutting plants with mature seeds. The harvest included 3 LSD-25 plants from FastBuds pollinated by different versions of Auto Bastard, and the hybrids AR#7, AR#9, AR#10 and AR#11, among which I carried out open pollination. I did not describe them or take photos for harvest. I will start describing individual phenotypes when harvesting plants from the main lines. The Lowryder from Doctor’s Choice went to harvest too.
After harvesting the secondary plants grown for seeds, I began preparing to switch the photoperiod plants to flowering. All the autoflowering males were discarded. All the germinated seeds in the Freak batch produced seedlings.
2 December. Purple Ryder harvest
I chose this strain for its seed-to-harvest timing and the chance of finding a purple phenotype. Purple takes 70 days, and some plants may show purple. In week 7 I removed one plant that clearly did not fit the schedule and, I think, would have flowered for up to 75-80 days. 2 of the 3 selected plants were cut on about day 63-66; at harvest, cloudy trichomes predominated, with almost no amber.
I found a large phenotype with a massive, long cola covered in buds. The flowers came out with elongated calyxes resembling “foxtails”. But the calyxes themselves are dense, heavy and resinous. By the end of flowering the bud had developed light purple tones, but I did not find a truly purple phenotype in this cycle. Overall, the plant proved very undemanding.

6-8 December. Phenotypes and sex
I declare the Friday phenotype parade open:
- SWAG Berry x (Drunken Bastard x Lowryder) F1.
- Various autoflowering Bastards with purple phenotypes.
- The handsome Neo Tropica Race male.
- His beautiful Giant Pur Pur Neon female.
The autoflowers are ~3 weeks old and have started reaching sexual maturity. Almost all the Siberian Ruderalis have shown their sex; the males were discarded. Lowryder have shown theirs too; I kept two males for the backcross with Freak. Across all the autos I rejected plants with unsuitable phenotypes: thin, too short or unbranched.
KalySeeds genetics are often prone to hermaphroditism, so I inspect the plants every couple of days. I also selected among the photoperiod males, choosing several pollen donors for the round.
During the week I photographed the mature plants for my phenotype records. After the photo session the plants are waiting to be described and harvested. Over the weekend I started keeping an inventory of phenotypes.
14-29 December. Harvest and hermaphroditism
Over the last week all the autoflowers have shown their sex. I selected the best males. Among the Purples there are no clear leaders at this stage. I sorted seeds from the first batch of Auto Bastard plants. The second batch, which was pollinated later, still needs describing and sorting. The XXL phenotypes carrying Siberian Ruderalis genes are still maturing; I think they need about another 2 weeks until seed harvest.
The males: I left a single branch on every photoperiod plant, because I need very little pollen, and the extra stress will help reveal hermaphrodites.
Among the photoperiod plants I removed one Freakshow hermaphrodite and 10 hermaphrodites from various KalySeeds strains. They included Tropica Race Purple, which I had wanted to use to reproduce variegated genetics. I set the remaining Kaly plants apart for additional stress testing.
I described and harvested the bastards.
29 December: after a few days of drying I moved on to the next stage of processing. I take a sieve and rub the dry plant through it; the green matter falls through, and then all that is left is to separate the mature seeds from stems and debris. The seeds are now resting.
A few XXL Bastard plants are still maturing seeds; these were the last to be pollinated. The SWAG and AD17 hybrids that I am working towards autoflowering are now in F1 and are photoperiod plants with classic leaves. I decided to separate them from the Freakshow plants to avoid accidental pollination, since these plants carry a risk of hermaphroditism.
Speaking of hermaphrodites: all the plants grown from KalySeeds seeds have been under stress testing for ~2.5 weeks. Of 20+ plants, 2 definitely showed no signs of hermaphroditism, and I still do not have enough confidence in another 3. Once I finish the Freakshow cycle, I plan to start propagating the plants that did not turn out to be hermaphrodites.

8 January 2025. Purple
Large, healthy seeds are forming on all the plants.
Among the purple strains Purple from Pyramid Seeds, Purple Ryder from Doctor’s Choice and LSD-25 from FastBuds, only LSD showed a purple phenotype. One plant has a vivid, rich colour, and I will use offspring from this mother in further work. The Doctor’s Purple makes up for the lack of purple with firm, resinous buds, while the Pyramid Purple simply disappointed me: nothing outstanding.
The Siberian ruderalis, autoflowering Freaks and photoperiod Freaks are all doing well.
15 January. The next hybrids
Genetics for new Bastard hybrids are entering the next cycle. A little later the seeds from the current cycle will finish resting and enter the game in early February too. Some of the Binchicken hybrids are in the first generation and have classic leaves; others are 100% ABC.
